Up the Intensity!!!

When we talk about exercise, intensity invariably becomes a discussion topic. I don’t think exercise intensity is well understood by most people. I think a large part of that, is because the word intensity is a poor word to describe what we really mean. I think difficulty or challenge would be a better option.Continue reading

What The Hell is a Calorie!?

Every time some one I know starts “dieting” all they can talk about is calories. People are obsessed with calories! I don’t think most people even know what a calorie really is. I’m not even convinced they have very much to do with food value at all!Continue reading

Playing in the Rain

It’s been raining here for almost 2 weeks! We just had our first really nice day in a while, and it was really nice! Almost 70 in the middle of January. I was so tempted to call out of work and enjoy the day it’s not even funny! Luckily I work outside a lot so I got to enjoy it some anyway.Continue reading

2017 Baselines

After yesterday’s goal declarations I thought I better put out some baselines. Without baselines, it’s a lot harder to track progress. I’ll put out monthly updates so that I can see my progress toward my goals. I don’t think I’ll be filming my 5 mile run. Sounds boring.Continue reading

Movement Goals for 2017

I decided that this would be a great way to start the new year and my blog!

A lot of these goals are mobility related. All that time sitting in a truck at work has really affected my flexibility. My first goal, however, is a strength skill. I want to get my first strict muscle up. I’d also like to be able to hold a good handstand for 1 minute. I used to be able to do it many years ago and I’d like to get back there.

My next two goals are both flexibility goals. I want to be able to do a middle split. I think this is a pretty ambitious goal because of the time table. I’d also like to be able to put my chest to my knees in a forward bend. Another ambitious goal.

Lastly, I’d like to get back into running. I haven’t run much in years and I’d like to work back up to a five mile run once a week.

Now to get my plan together to knock these out!
