Take Charge of Your Health!

Nothing will do more for your health journey than taking charge of your health. Don’t leave it to doctors, dentists, nutritionists, personal trainers, or anyone else in the health field. They can all help you get to your best self, but only if you do the work. And how will you find a good practitioner if you don’t know the basics? One of the best things you can do for your health is to get a basic education on how the human body works. Learn how the body adapts to stress, and every stimulus the body experiences is a form of stress. I hope to share some of this information here, but explore! There are lots of great resources out there. I’ll be sharing some of my favorites in future posts!

Find something that really gets you interested in your health. Your body is your vehicle that gets you through life. You can’t get another, so if you abuse it, you’re stuck with it. It’s the most precious thing you have.

It’s so easy to overlook this fact and not take care of yourself. I’m just as guilty as anyone more often than I’d like to admit, and I definitely know better. Remember that taking care of your body also means using it. It needs stimulation to be healthy. Don’t just sit on the couch watching TV or in front of the computer.

Spend time in nature. We are not separate from nature. We are nature. We need the chemicals that plants produce in wild places. We need the soil and sun to touch our skin. Take time to smell the roses, dip your feet in a creek, and watch deer run through a field. It has a positive effect on our immune and hormonal systems.

Learn about where your food comes from. The expression you are what you eat doesn’t go quite far enough. You are what your food eats too. Our industrial agriculture food system has made our food supply someone else’s problem. We have become detached from our food, which is less critical than only water! Food doesn’t come from a grocery store. It comes to the grocery store from somewhere else.

Spend time with people you love. It’s easy to get busy in our lives and say I don’t have time to do things with so-and-so. But we’re not solo jungle cats. We are a community critter! We need social time. Without it we experience distress and all the negative impacts it presents.

We are the captains of our ships. Let’s steer our boats to the life we want. Let’s not sit by while the boat floats aimlessly or someone steers for us!
