What Two Days Of Intensive Movement Showed Me

I spent the first half of last week getting my Level 2 MovNat trainer certification. You can read my MovNat level 2 certification review here if you haven’t already. In a nutshell, it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot.

What The Course Highlighted

But it was illuminating in more ways than just the knowledge. It really highlighted how sedentary our modern lives are. I spent the better part of 8 hours doing some relatively intense movement practice. Not only did I enjoy it, now I miss not having enough time to continue that level of movement.

We really are built to move, a lot. It’s a little shocking how much you have to organize your life around movement to get a reasonable amount of movement into your life. Between cars and desk jobs, if we don’t structure a movement-centric lifestyle, I doubt it’ll happen on its own.

What’s even more frustrating is that a lack of movement causes our bodies to break down. The human body is remarkably adaptable. We adapt to whatever we do the most. Today, we do nothing the most. Or rather, we sit and hunch the most. Our bodies are now expertly adapted to this position. Don’t believe me? Look at the shape of “ergonomic” chairs.

How can I make modern life and movement compatible?
